Kamala Harris 2020 Vice President Elect just mentioned Mary McLeod Bethune in her acceptance speech 8/19/2020!!!! I began writing and developing "First By Faith: The Life Of Mary McLeod Bethune" in 2012 and I have been performing since 2015 in my solo play. In my play we see Dr. Bethune stand up to the Klansman for African American's right to #VOTE. She stood in Faith Hall on the grounds of her university that she founded, what we now know as Bethune Cookman University using her words to fight racism. On a personal note, I have been doing this show for so long that I feel we are Kindred Spirits. I am proud people are inspired by my show about this great woman. They learn the truth about this magnificent human being. They come back to see the show and bring friends. During this journey I have received the 2018 Best Educational Show Award and the 2019 Best of Solo Theatre in 10 Years Honor from the United Solo Theatre Festival where I SOLDOUT, just as I SOLDOUT the 2019 National Black Theatre Festival in Winston Salem NC, and completing the crowning jewel was winning the 2019 AUDELCO VIV Award for Solo Performance of the Year. I was performing again in a show I curated and co-produced at the 14th Street Y when the Pandemic made us all pause. Now in 2020 the year of the Woman, the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote, this year of the 2020 upcoming presidential election, we are living history as we have witnessed The Vice President Elect, Kamala Harris speak the name of Mary McLeod Bethune to the Nation and to the world. We owe it to leaders like Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune and all of the great women and men to #getoutandvote2020 For more information on the play and my team who have worked with me and encouraged me. Also some videos, interviews, photos and reviews visit: www.FirstByFaith.com. And in November PLEASE VOTE AND MAKE SURE YOUR VOTE IS COUNTED.  -Richarda Abrams
